The Cat Eye: With This Hypoallergenic How-To, You Can WING IT Safely!

By Jessica Arnaudin

An understated, wispy cat eye is universally flattering and goes a long way towards brightening tired eyes. Worn with no bottom liner, the top lid takes center stage giving the face a fresh, well-slept appearance. 8AM meeting? Bring it on!

How To “Dew” It:

You’ll Need:

STEP 1: Prime Lids

First, prep your lid with a touch of allergen-free Skin-The-Bluff Concealer in the shade that best matches your skin tone. This will prime the area, ensuring a greater deposit of pigment and longer lasting wear time.

STEP 2: Line

Wet the bristles of your Skintelligent Beauty Eye Definer Brush with water and dip into the darkest shade of (H)eyebrow Brow + Eyeliner in “Brown”. This creates a wonderfully pigmented paste that works like a liquid liner.

Gently rest the brush at the base of your lashes near the outer corner of the eye and begin to stipple the color into the lash line. Focus on narrowing the line as you work inward toward the nose. Concentrate on staying close to the natural line of your lashes. This enhances your eye shape while staying soft.

Now that you’ve got your liner in place, again rest the brush at the outer corner of eye (the tapered tip of the brush should point inward toward your nose) and softly drag the line outward following the curvature of your lid. Symmetry is key and takes some practice!

You can continue to add thickness to the line depending on your desired look. Explore different methods from feathery light and wispy, to dramatically exaggerated (and every line in between)!

STEP 3: Lashes

Apply Ooh-La-Lash! Volumizing Mascara  one coat for a subtle, kittenish upturn, multiple coats for serious sex appeal (bring out your inner Sofia Loren).

That’s it: wings that don’t sting!

Go bold or go home! This eye is a big statement but it is angular, clean, and works beautifully against a power red like Velvet Matte Lipstick in “Va-Va-Voom,” “Light My Fire,” or “Castigada.” Or, mix it up as we did here: classic Subtle Shine Lipstick in “Big Red” topped with Lip Gloss in “Tango” (skincidentally, check out Into The Gloss’ lovely review of this shade 🙂

For even more ‘wow’ use excess mascara from the tip of your Ooh-La Lash! Mascara wand and apply with an angled brush. You can use this to intensify the line you’ve just created!

Three Beauty Trends To Try Now

Yciar Castillo does gorgeous makeup, but we love her for more than her talent.  She’s a gentle soul — her calm is as vital to us as her artistry on manic shoots — and a great mom to her adorable little girl.  We also love Yciar’s philosophy of simple makeup application for the everyday woman.  With so much picking up speed this time of year — work, fitness, decluttering, skin goals — we thought who better to tap for spring trends than the makeup artist whose mantra is makeup does not have to be complicated!

Spring is breaking but before you decide to give up your more dramatic holiday and winter looks, this year, spring  makeup trends actually call for a bit of drama and colour.

Here are my favorites:

1. Makeup? What Makeup?

Dewy, beautiful skin is still a thing this season.  As always, the first step in makeup is skincare.  The healthier your skin, the easier it is to achieve this look.  Apply a generous amount of moisturizer and  top with a very lightweight foundation or BB Cream such as Skintangible “Faint”action Skin-Refining Non-Makeup SPF30.  Then use a minimal amount of concealer to hide any unwanted blemishes (spot conceal).  The less makeup you look like you have on, the better.

2. Rock and Sol

Keeping with the “healthy skin” look, add some warmth to your skin with a light sweep of bronzer on the cheeks, forehead, chin and top of the nose.   Tarte-à-Tan Antioxidant Bronzing Powder is perfect to get that wonderful sheer bronze glow.  The best part is that it takes care of your skin by repairing and keeping skin hydrated while you rock that sun-kissed radiance.

There nothing like eyeliner to add drama to a look.  Tightlining is all the rage for spring.  Use your eyeliner and draw on the waterline above and below the eye like I did here.

3. Loudspeaker

The classic red lip has decided to stay for spring. Pick pure red shades such as VMV’s Velvet Matte Lipstick in Va-Va-Voom for a gorgeous pop of colour on those lips.

Lashes are huge this season – the longer, the thicker, the better!  You can achieve the look I did here with coats (and coats) of mascara.  Ooh-La-Lash! Volumizing Mascara coats each lash with a special compound that makes your lashes look thicker and more luscious.

Customize Your Own (Hypoallergenic!) Colored Eyeliner

by Jess Arnaudin

LINE a Rainbow

Looking to add pep to your peepers? Try blue eyeliner. This bold yet (totally!) wearable trend makes the whites of your eyes appear whiter. The result? So fresh and fabulous, you may not even need that morning latté.

And why stop at blue? Follow the steps below with any eyeshadow for a customized eyeliner hue that suits your mood!

What You’ll Need:

  • Skintangible “BBBB” Cream (BB But Better!) Skin-Loving Non-Makeup
  • Skin-The-Bluff Concealer in N1
  • Two True Hues Eyeshadow Duo in “Sea & Sky” (“Roses & Bon Bons” is a great option if you’d like a more pearlescent finish)
  • Skintelligent Beauty Eye Definer Brush

How To “Dew” It in 4 Steps:

1. PERFECT the Base
Refresh, refine and protect with Skintangible “BBBB” Cream (BB But Better!) Skin-Loving Non-Makeup. Next, apply Skin-The-Bluff Concealer under the eyes and around nose. Disguise any “quirks in progress” by spot treating areas requiring more coverage.

2. BRIGHTEN Lid Space
Brush on the pearlescent pink of Two True Hues Eyeshadow Duo in “Roses & Bon Bons.” If you’d like a more matte lid, use your Skin-The-Bluff Concealer: buff on lightly and blend well.

Use the Two True Hues Eyeshadow Duo “Sea & Sky”. Blend the darkest hue (“Blue Velvet”) with a small amount of N1 Skin-The-Bluff Concealer. Dip an angled brush like Skintelligent Beauty Eye Definer Brush into this creamy, pigmented paste and gently swipe along lash line working toward the outer corner of your lashes. Play with thicknesses and shapes — this brush gives you limitless options. What’s awesome with this technique is you can blend your own signature eyeliner color! For example, try “Truequoise” from the “Life’s A Beach” duo for a sweeter hue, or blend in a green from “Shaken & Stirred” for an enchanting aqua.

4. FINISH Strong & Sweet: Apply a few coats of our ever-popular Ooh-La-Lash! Volumizing Mascara and a neutral or baby pink gloss like Lip Gloss in “Slip” (always a fan favorite; plus, it’s dye-free!)
