Fresh-Pressed Beauty

By Jessica Arnaudin

Let’s talk color! This season, we draw inspiration from the vibrant, farm-fresh hues abundant at our favorite juice bar. These shades deliver a juicy dose of color, look great on a multitude of skin tones, and are sure to keep you feeling radiant from day to night. After trying these energizing fruit and veggie-inspired shades, we’re sure your hearts will BEET for them too!

What You’ll Need:

These shades are wonderful for more reasons than just their flattery, vibrance, and hypoallergenic, good-for-you benefits: they are buildable (for just a hint of color) and versatile. Use them together (instructions below) for full-on, fresh-pressed glam. Or, use them individually for a pop of fresh-pressed color just where you want it — in the photo above, Sam (far left) applied all shades (she chose Danger for lips) but used a light touch; Jess went with Spitfire, very lightly applied, on lips, and went heavier with Bellini on cheeks; and Georgia chose the berry smoky eye with Chalet.

How To “Dew” Fresh-Pressed Glam:

Take a page from this purple superfood – it translates perfectly into a stunning smoky eye!

Use the darker side (Laura’s Burgundy) of Two True Hues Eyeshadow palette in ‘Chalet’ to contour eyes.

With an angled brush, smudge (H)Eyebrow in ‘Brown’ along lashline.

Finish with two coats of Ooh-La-Lash! Mascara.

Add a warm flush of color inspired by the sweetness of nature.

Highlight cheekbones with Skin Bloom Blush in ‘Bellini’. For deeper skin tones, try ‘Heat’.

Pigment-drenched opaque shades ensure statement-making lips! Like all Skintelligent Beauty lipsticks, these are infused with antioxidant green tea and virgin coconut oil for healthy hydration.

Try Velvet Matte Lipstick in ‘Spitfire’ or ‘Danger’.

Take It “Skinside”:

All makeup looks better on naturally healthy skin! Try this recipe to glow “skinside-out!”

Feed your glow with this quick and easy green smoothie designed to nourish skin from the inside out! Here at VMV Hypoallergenics, it’s no secret that we are crazy about the hydrating and healing properties of the almighty coconut. That’s why we added coconut water to this delicious blend! It provides moisture to skin that may be dehydrated from transepidermal water loss and it’s packed with electrolytes to keep you energized all day long. Enjoy this verdant blend as a morning breakfast booster — freeze leftovers in ice molds for future smoothie making!

  • 2 cups unsweetened coconut water
  • 2 cups fresh pineapple, frozen in chunks
  • 1 ½ cup fresh spinach, stems removed
  • ½ avocado

  1. Blend coconut water and spinach until smooth.
  2. Add frozen pineapple and avocado. Blend again until creamy texture is achieved.
  3. Sip and enjoy!

Sweet Potato & Coconut-Caramel Crisps

This sweet treat is packed with antioxidants, fiber and healthy oil!

“Kamote-cue” is what we’d call this traditional tropical-provincial treat (variations of it, particularly with banana, abound in Southeast Asia). My family has snacked on it for generations. The sweet potatoes are right at home any time of year, and the surprise of coconut warms up even the chilliest of days 🙂 I hope you enjoy it as much as we have…and do! Regularly!

  • Sweet potatoes.
  • Know-It-Oil virgin coconut oil.
  • Coconut sugar. Choose organic if you can.

Slice sweet potatoes into thin crisps about 1/4 to 1/8-inch thick (thicker gives you more sweet potato yumminess; thinner gives more crunch).

Pour Know-It-Oil into a frying pan over medium heat. Add in sweet potato slices. Sprinkle coconut sugar — which will start to caramelize quickly — onto each slice. After some browning, flip crisps over and repeat coconut sugar sprinkling.

Remove crisps when browned to your liking. My family is notorious for loving crunch, so we like these with very browned, slightly burnt edges. Strain, then pat dry on paper towels.

Serve as a midday pick-me-up, movie night snack, or for dessert!
